AME-Chopper, Germany, since 1976

The fashion for motorcycles in the American style, especially for choppers, in the 60s actively spread throughout Europe. The idea of "Americanization" of motorcycles, which was initially considered the destiny of single enthusiasts, gradually took possession of people who wanted to establish mass production of such cars. In Germany, one of the first to solve this problem began in 1973, engineer Walter F. Cuntze. The main difficulty was not in the design and in the direct construction of the machine. The fact is that, according to strict German standards, operation on the roads of home-made equipment was simply prohibited. A group of enthusiasts had to work hard to obtain certificates for the right to industrial production of home-made motorcycles and for their access to road traffic. As a result, in 1976, a road projectile with the name "AME-Chopper" was released, which was actually the first motorcycle with a homemade chassis, which fully complied with the strict standards of German road transport law.
Production began by lengthening the feathers of the telescopic front fork and changing its angle of inclination. At the request of the buyer, the power units Honda CB 750 / CB 900 or Kawasaki Z900 / Z1000 were installed in a single frame. In the 80s, the first models of mass-produced choppers with a parallel front fork, which marked a return to the tradition of classic motorcycles, appeared. Today the company "AME-Chopper" offers potential customers several options for placing an order: you can buy a ready-made chopper, formulate a number of requirements and specify the components from which an individual option will be assembled at the request of the customer, or simply carry out tuning a serial motorcycle using components produced by the company " AME-Chopper ".
