APPERSON, Kokomo, United States, 1902-1926

The APPERSON brand appeared thanks to the brothers Elmer and Edgar APPERSON in 1902, when they left Haynes-Apperson and began working independently. The first car "APPERSON" had a horizontal 2-cylinder engine, which was soon replaced by a 4-cylinder. In 1907, Jack Rabbit went into production - a two-seater racing car with a 60 hp engine, which took part in many competitions, but without any special achievements. At its base, a road car with a closed body was made, which broke all cost records: $ 7,500. It was designed, as the brothers said, for a specific audience. Gradually, the whole range of APPERSON began to carry the name “Jack Rabbit”. Every year, the cars were improved: in 1912-1913 they were installed in-line 4-and 6-cylinder engines with a working volume of 5212 and 5971 cm3, in 1914 they were added to the V8 engine in 5502 cm3. Three years later, the release of an even more powerful and prestigious V-8 Road-plane, also called the Silver APPERSON, was launched.
“APPERSON” with its too high cost could not compete with cheap cars that appeared after the war. After a series of unsuccessful reorganizations, the company went bankrupt.
