ASA, Milan, Italy, 1962-1967


ASA was established to produce low-cost, small and medium-class sports cars. The first sample with the body work designer Bertone was presented at the Turin Auto Show in late 1961. The chassis was developed by the engineer Bizzarrini, and the model was manufactured by SEFAC. The car had a lot in common with the designs of Ferrari, which caused a strong protest from this famous company. Many even thought that ASA cars were manufactured by Ferrari and often called them “little Ferrari”.
In 1962, the ASA-1000GT coupe with a 4-cylinder engine slightly larger than 1 liter and 97 hp in power appeared at the Turin Motor Show. The novelties had the same characteristics as the coupe, but the race car was equipped with an engine capacity of 995 cm3 and a simplified light alloy body. e designer left the company, founded his own company.
At the Paris Motor Show in 1965, a new “ASA-411” appeared with a 4-cylinder engine of 1092 cm3 and 104 hp. at 7500 rpm It was installed a new 4-speed gearbox with the so-called “accelerating” gear.
The following year the company underwent structural changes, and the main novelty was the coupe “RB-613" (Roll-Bar) with a fiberglass body and a 6-cylinder engine with a working volume of only 1.3 liters. In 1967, having built a racing car of formula 3 with the English Ford Cosworth engine, ASA ceased to exist.
